About the Orchestra: From an unlikely set of circumstances, born in the midst of the Great Depression in a location off the beaten path of arts and culture and motivated at least as much by the artists’ desire to provide great music as the community’s wish to receive it, a great Orchestra developed. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1930 by German conductor and local violin teacher Ferdinand Schaefer. At first comprised of volunteer musicians who split the revenue from ticket sales, the ISO became a professional orchestra with salaried musicians in 1937. Since 2003, Saddlebrook Central resident Ju-Fang Liu has served as Principal Bass for the ISO and graciously arranged for this ticket donation.
